Christmas Tree Pull-Apart Bread

Your next crowd pleasing Holiday Appetizer!

This pull-apart Christmas tree cheesy bread is seriously the most fun thing I’ve made in ages - just creating it brought me so much joy! And I can guarantee that it will be the most popular thing at your next gathering!

Head on over to the grocery store. Grab some pre-made pizza dough and some mozzarella cheese…I used some leftover cheese strings because suddenly, my kids don’t like them anymore and they’ve been lingering in my cheese drawer. But any mozzarella should work great.

These little freshly baked bread balls cheesy on the inside, and soft and chewy on the outside are holiday perfection! Serve this with your favourite marinara sauce, and it’s sure to become your new Christmas tradition!

Christmas Tree Pull-Apart Bread

Ingredients:

  • 1 portion of pre-made pizza dough

  • 5 mozzarella cheese strings (or equivalent amount of cheese)

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

  • 1 tbsp dried herbs such as thyme, rosemary, oregano

  • Flaky salt

  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce (for dipping)

  • Fresh rosemary or oregano for garnish

  • Parmesan cheese (optional)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 425F. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper; set aside.

  2. Cut the cheese into 1/2-1” pieces.

  3. On a floured surface, turn out the pizza dough and using a bench scraper separate the dough into golf ball sized pieces. Using your fingers, stretch and flatten each piece of dough and then place a piece of cheese in the centre. Roll the dough around the cheese, forming a ball. Continue until you have created enough balls to form your tree shape.

  4. Place each ball onto the sheet pan, seam side down. Cover the balls with a clean tea towel and place on top of the stove (or somewhere warm) for 15 minutes to allow them to rise a little.

  5. Brush the tops with egg wash, and sprinkle with the dried herbs and a little bit of flaky salt.

  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes until the tops are starting to go golden.

  7. Meanwhile, grate your parmesan and put your marinara sauce into a serving dish.

Serve right away, a little warm from the oven, with the dipping sauce. Dig in and enjoy!
