Homemade Sloppy Joes

Let us not forget about the weeknight classic: Homemade Sloppy Joes for the most simple and delicious dinner!

When the weather warms up, I love the idea of eating this classic comfort food! My classic Sloppy Joe Recipe has the perfect balance of tang, sweetness, savoury and zest for a summer dinner that your whole family will adore.

Our family's favourite weeknight dinner: Sloppy Joes with air fryer French Fries and easy veggies.

How to serve Homemade Sloppy Joes

  • The best way (IMO) is in toasted buns. Look for brioche buns. They are soft, sweet and work perfectly with Sloppy Joes!

  • served the Sloppy Joes alongside some frozen fries popped into the airfryer. Or try onion rings!

  • a side of pickles, some raw veggies or a simple side salad.

Homemade Sloppy Joes

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 1/2 lb ground beef

  • 1 small white onion, diced small

  • 1 green pepper, diced small

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tbsp tomato paste

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tsp Chile powder

  • 1/8 tsp cayenne

  • 1 cup beef stock

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • S&P to taste

  • 2 cup marinara sauce

Directions:

  1. In a large, high sided saucepan or skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned (5 mins)

  2. Add in the onion and the bell pepper. Cook until tender 3-5 mins.

  3. Stir in the garlic, tomato paste, paprika, Chile powder, and cayenne. Cook until fragrant.

  4. Pour in the beef stock, stirring to combine. Then add in the Worcestershire sauce, Dijon, brown sugar, S&P (to taste). Bring to a boil, reduce the heat and allow to simmer, stirring occasionally for 15 minutes. Stir in the marinara sauce.

  5. Serve immediately.

 

NOTES:

This Sloppy Joes recipe is freezer friendly and easily doubled. Why not make a double batch to help out your future self? To freeze, portion a cooled amount into a ziptop bag. To reheat, thaw the portion in the fridge overnight and reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave.
