Welcome to A Lovenote.
A weekly digest where I say hello and share. You’ll find things you can cook this week + some things you didn’t ask for but might enjoy. I’m so glad you are here!
The snow outside my window ❄️
Happy Sunday from the snowiest Sunday yet!
I'm quickly writing this Lovenote before heading out to cheer on Fras in his ski race! With the biggest snowfall of the season predicted, I'm secretly hoping we all get snowed in – wouldn't that be magical?
How are you navigating this mid-winter season? I've been feeling the weight of winter myself, especially after being under the weather in January. My energy hasn't quite bounced back, and everything feels like it requires extra effort lately. However, the lengthening days and glimpses of sun remind me that spring isn't far away.
This period of reflection has helped me realize something important: while I've always prioritized nourishing my body with healthy foods, perimenopause requires a more comprehensive approach to self-care.
For those of you also experiencing perimenopause, you might recognize these symptoms: persistent fatigue, stubborn weight gain, and unexplained energy crashes. Often, these challenges are connected to insulin resistance, where our cellular batteries (mitochondria) struggle to produce energy efficiently. Even with a healthy diet, our bodies might be stuck in "storage mode" rather than effectively using the fuel we provide.
The good news? We can address this at the cellular level through:
Strategic rest and recovery
Appropriate exercise tailored to our hormonal state
Blood sugar-balancing nutrition
Alignment with our natural circadian rhythms
If you're feeling overwhelmed by these changes, please know you're not alone. I'm here to help create a personalized program that addresses your specific needs – just reply to this email to start the conversation.
As for me, I'm embracing this snowy weekend with a mix of gentle outdoor activities and cozy indoor time – puzzling and watching movies by the fire with the kids sounds just perfect.
Sending you warmth and love for the week ahead,
xoChristie
P.S. If you're struggling with energy levels and would like support, let's connect and discuss how I can help you feel more vibrant again.
Exploring what I've discovered across the web this week...
HABITS. I keep learning about the toxicity of plastics in the home and I am moving towards slowly replacing my black plastic utensils that I bought when Fras and I moved in together. I grabbed this cult favourite this week (US Link) and am waiting for my new meal prep canisters to arrive. (US LINK). I’ve been loving meal prepping high protein, nourishing breakfasts lately and these are much better for grab and go.
I’ve been trying to get into the habit of sending voice notes. They are like a hybrid of the text and a phone call. I think they are more personal than a text, but not the same commitment as a phone conversation. I know when I get them, I’m thrilled to hear my friends voices.
SCROLLING. I’ve been feeling a great desire to travel, but this time of year is crazy with the kids and getting away doesn’t seem feasible. This list of the greatest places to travel to solo might just be my nudge to book a ticket and go! I think traveling alone would be heavenly. What about you? Does the idea of travelling alone, with your own company terrify you or thrill you?
WEARING. Je t’aime. I got this for a super fun Valentine’s Date night that Fras organized with 15 of our friends at Justin’s Oven in Kimberley. Dinner was amazing, the venue was adorable and I can’t wait to go back!
HOME. Do you use the Yuka App? I only heard about it recently and it has become my new obsession. In general, I try to buy organic meat and dairy products. I am a big believer that whole ingredients or minimally processed food is medicine. The Yuka App lets me scan food (and cosmetic!) products to see their health and environmental-impact scores. I also keep in mind the EWG’s Dirty Dozen list — which highlights the conventional produce items that have the highest rates of pesticide exposure. If I can afford to buy them organic, I do! My kids moan and complain that our house is an ‘ingredient’ house but it makes me feel better knowing that we are doing our best to eat clean.
LISTENING. Well, I haven’t got listened much to my favourite podcasts lately because I’ve blown through all 3 audio books in the Fourth Wing series in a matter of days. I was expecting it to be like indulgent, YA, fantasy, similar to Twilight, but let me tell you….do NOT listen to this in the car with your kids! It’s definitely not YA. It’s rated 18R. In the best way! Also, you might want to add this to cart if you’re going to also grab the book! (US Link)
PS: If perimenopause has stolen your spark down there, this vibrator has truly helped rediscover the joy of sex. Just because we may no longer be young, doesn’t mean we’re dead!!
This podcast however, did change my perspective a lot this week.
WATCHING. Sadie and I watched Kinda Pregnant during the crazy snow storm this week and we both loved it! Amy is so universally lovely, funny and relatable.
This Nike Ad. #YouWin.
Excited to watch Apple Cider Vinegar on Netflix. An account of Belle Gibson, the Australian influencer who lied about having cancer and claimed she cured herself with wellness practices.

These easy protein peanut butter and jam cups are the perfect midday treat. Rich and creamy peanut butter center, with a dollop of sweet jam hidden inside, they taste so good you won't even be able to tell these are packed with protein!
