Welcome to A Lovenote.
A weekly digest where I say hello and share. You’ll find things you can cook this week + some things you didn’t ask for but might enjoy. I’m so glad you are here!
Before we get into this week’s newsletter, I wanted to send my heartfelt condolences to everyone dealing with the devastating fires in the Los Angeles this week. It has been absolutely horrifying to behold from afar, so I can’t imagine what it must be like for the firefighters responding to it and locals fleeing from it. So many have lost so much, and it’s not over yet. I’m sending my prayers and support to all of first responders fighting the fires, those who have lost their homes and belongings, and anyone else directly impacted by this terrible tragedy.
Hello my sweet friend!
Many of you are participating in the 10-Day Winter Wellness Reset and today is Day 7. We are focussing on easing into January. Those big goals and resolutions can wait. We are taking time to process the previous year, tune into the natural rhythm of our bodies (hello, it’s still winter and we need rest) and really plan for what we want in 2025. Feel free to hop on the last 3 days by joining us here. It’s never too late to prioritize your health and wellbeing.
One of my biggest take-aways from the last week of the reset has been coming back to the boring basics. It sounds trite, but they work. We’re not piling on complicated routines. It’s hydration, walking, mindfulness, stress management, sleep hygiene. It’s simple habits, and they work.
What if I told you that one of these simple habits could help you with:
Tackling that tummy fat that seems to appear overnight
Naturally balancing your hormones
And helping you feel more like yourself again
All it takes is a quick 10-minute walk after meals.
Here’s why it works so well: Our bodies become more sensitive to blood sugar spikes as we go through perimenopause. This sensitivity can not only trigger hot flashes but also make weight loss a real challenge. Walking right after eating prompts your muscles to use up some of that circulating blood sugar, which can help to:
Reduce hormone-related weight around the belly,
Soothe hot flashes and night sweats
Relieve bloating and discomfort
Support steady blood pressure
Strengthen your bones
Ease stress (helpful for balancing cortisol, which impacts weight during menopause)
Create a moment of peace for yourself—whether it’s solo or with friends!
And all of this from just a gentle 10-minute walk. There’s no need for special equipment or complex routines and plans.
Sometimes, small, consistent habits make the biggest difference.
Let’s dive into today’s findings across the web…..

What caught my eye this week …
HABITS I’m knee deep in the 10-Day Winter Reset and carving out time to journal and meditate. I like to think of January more as warm up. Not as a sprint. I wish you all were participating with us on this reset. It has been so profound to ease into the new year focussed on how I want to feel. Taking time to reflect on last year and really resting mindfully before all the resolutions and goal setting begins.
I came across the idea of a Life Edit and I love it! It’s like a closet purge, but for all areas of your life: relationships, finances, mental health, etc. I’m striving to feel more aligned to my work and my inner voice, so I think this would really help.
Since we’re on the topic of goals, I’m keen to try out this 90/90/1 rule.
LISTENING. This podcast with Gabby Bernstein about Internal Family Systems. I’m fascinated by how our childhood trauma affects us.
WATCHING I rewatched a League of Their Own because we had a costume party last night. Such a classic. I forgot Madonna was in it. Gina Davis is a stunner.
READING. Sadly, so many of my friends have recently lost a parent. It’s a reminder of this new sandwich season we’ve entered. I feel so blessed that both Fraser and I still have both of our parents, and that they are all so vibrant. This article on how to cope with losing a parent was helpful.
The news can be very overwhelming. I try very hard to compartmentalize the news but it’s invasive, ever present and hard to avoid. This is a great article about what to do when the news affects your stress levels and mental health.
Read this article. You will LOL. Welcome to your Cronehood.
I just downloaded All Fours, by Miranda July. It has great reviews.
SHOPPING. Introducing the first ever Smart Thermostat for Perimenopausal Women. Add to cart!
Is all the Christmas ‘stuff’ a major chore for anyone else? I have no trouble bringing it all out. But my lord….putting it all away feel like a massive chore. I just purchased this to help me.
Please buy this jacket before it sells out.
Speaking of decluttering with all the holiday decorations, have you heard of the cantaloupe rule? It might just make your home feel brand new.
FOOD: The internet says that this recipe, with lemon, garlic, pine nuts is the very best.

These easy protein peanut butter and jam cups are the perfect midday treat. Rich and creamy peanut butter center, with a dollop of sweet jam hidden inside, they taste so good you won't even be able to tell these are packed with protein!
