Christmas Tree Nutella Bread

Need a show stopping dessert? Look no further than this gorgeous Christmas Tree Nutella Bread!

The festive season is upon us! Christmas time always seems like the right time to bring Nutella back into my kitchen…I mean, what is Christmas without Nutella?? Let’s whip up this gorgeous masterpiece of a dessert using a basic puff pastry and Nutella.

I love how the tree looks fancy and elegant. Shaping the little branches is oh-so-easy. To serve it, you simply twist off the little branches and enjoy!

This recipe is sure to be a family favourite. Serve this at your next holiday gathering or on Christmas morning.

Christmas Tree Nutella Bread

Ingredients:

  • 1 box (2 sheets) Puff Pastry, partially thawed

  • 1 cup Nutella

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

  • icing sugar to sprinkle

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Roll out one sheet of puff pastry directly onto the parchment lined cookie sheet.

  3. Spread the Nutella allover the puff pastry, going all the way to the edges.

  4. Top with the 2nd sheet of puff pastry. Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, cut out the shape of a tree, reserving the extra pieces.

  5. Starting on one side, make horizontal slices into the sides of the Christmas tree triangle being careful to stop before you reach the centre.

  6. Repeat the same process on the other side of the Christmas tree triangle; again being careful to stop before reaching the center. You want to leave a 1 to 2 inch section down the middle of the tree that is not sliced.

  7. Starting at the bottom, twist the branches away from you. Press the edge of the branch firmly into the parchment paper to keep the branch from untwisting.

  8. Continue twisting the branches moving up the tree and then move on to the other side and twist those branches as well.

  9. With the excess puff pastry, use a star cookie cutter and make a star for the top of the tree. You can also cut out more shapes for the excess puff pastry and bake them separately as well.

  10. Brush the entire pastry with the beaten egg.

  11. Bake in the preheated oven until puffy and golden brown, 12 to 15 minutes. Sprinkle with icing sugar and cool slightly before serving.

Note: you can use pesto or artichoke dip to make this a savoury appetizer!

The sign of a great holiday baking season!
